Congrats, Marshmallows! As you probably know by now, the iconic drama series Veronica Mars, which originally ran from 2004 to 2007, is being revived for an eight-episode season on Hulu. Here, everything you need to know about the new season, including where and when you can watch it.
When will it be released?
The fourth season of Veronica Mars will consist of eight one-hour episodes, and it will be released on Hulu on July 26, 2019. And in case you need to catch up on all that happened in the first three seasons (and the movie!), those will all be made available on Hulu to watch starting July 1.
Wait, there was a movie?
Yes. After Warner Bros. declined to give the show’s creator, Rob Thomas, funding for a movie, he created a Kickstarter. Over 90,000 fans raised $5.7 million for the movie, even though the Kickstarter’s original goal was $2 million. The movie was released in 2014.
Will the new season be similar to the old seasons?
Yes and no! There will be many recurring characters (more on that below), but instead of there being a new case every episode, this season will be serialized with one overarching mystery.
According to Variety, “In the new installment, spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry. After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica is drawn into a mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.”
The show's creator also told Entertainment Weekly a bit more about the themes of the new season. He said, "Traditionally there are a lot of stories about men coming to this crossroads in their life where the idea of okay, commitment, family, mortgage, kids is one direction and freedom, irresponsibility, ‘do whatever I want’ is the other direction. I was interested in putting Veronica at that crossroads. A big part of the story has to do with what kind of life Veronica wants to live."
Is there a trailer for season 4?
There are actually a few. Here’s the one where they announced the date:

And another teaser:
Who’s returning from the original cast?
There will of course be Kristen Bell as Veronica Mars, Enrico Colantoni as her dad Keith Mars, and Jason Dohring as Logan Echolls. Max Greenfield (Leo D’Amato), Percy Daggs III (Wallace), and Francis Capra (Weevil) will also be there.
Any new characters?
For sure. There will be a recurring pizza delivery man with a passion for true crime played by Patton Oswalt and a new Neptune police chief named Marcia Langdon and played by Dawnn Lewis. Clifton Collins Jr. will also join the cast as Alonzo, a hitman for a Mexican cartel, Izabela Vidovic will play Matty Ross, a teen who lost somebody very close to her, J.K. Simmons will play an ex-con named Clyde Prickett, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste will play a Neptune nightclub owner named Nicole. According to Deadline, when the spring breakers begin dying, Veronica starts to think the killer is selecting his victims from Nicole's nightclub.
For those who also read the two Veronica Mars books, The Thousand Dollar Tan Line and Mr. Kiss and Tell, you might already recognize the character of Marcia. It’s been said by the series creator that the fourth season will mostly treat the events in the books as canon, meaning as if they happened in the show, including Marcia being the new police chief.
