Warning: Major Stranger Things 3 spoilers ahead.
If you're still reeling from the heartbreaking Stranger Things season 3finale, you're not alone. The summer of 1984 in Hawkins ended with the Mind Flayer wreaking havoc on the town and a few fan-favorite characters, namely Jim Hopper (David Harbour).
According to Netflix, 40.7 million accounts viewed Stranger Things' latest season in the first four days. So it's safe to say that mourning fans are consoling themselves with the promise of Stranger Things season 4 . One fan even made a major wager concerning next season's villain.
Reddit user weedmoney666 recently explained why he thinks Eleven herself, played by Millie Bobby Brown, could be the antagonist next season. In the season 3 finale, El was the new target of perennial evil force, Mind Flayer. During the episode, Mind Flayer grabs El by the ankle, before she's ultimately saved by her friends. However, part of the Flayer's flesh remains in her leg until it's pulled out by Mike, leaving her vulnerable to infection.
In other words, a dangerous precedent has been set up for Eleven. Every other character who had been infected by the Mind Flayer was ultimately controlled by the super villain. Billy (Dacre Montgomery) and Will (Noah Schnapp) are both prime examples.
The user posits that Eleven could follow suit in season 4—and that her inability to use her powers at season's end has something to do with it. Finally, that ominous shadow in the final scene? The user says it signals an Eleven vision or flashback, reminiscent of Will's when he was infected and trapped in the Upside Down.
Any time Netflix wants to clear this up and drop the fourth season…we'll be here.
