Entertainment Tonight and E! got Liam Hemsworth's side of the story in regards to his decision to suddenly file for divorce from Miley Cyrus today. The two announced their separation less than two weeks ago, and back then, the two both hoped they could work out their differences.
What changed? Hemsworth deciding after seeing all the stories that have come out—reports of Cyrus' fling with Kaitlynn Carter, sources saying his drinking and partying habit allegedly contributed to the split—that it is time to move on, a source told Entertainment Tonight.
"Liam's decision to file for divorce is sad, but in the end, it was never going to work," the source explained. "They are too different. Liam never wanted to share Miley with anyone. He loves her and he is far too traditional. He finally realized he just wants to start fresh. Liam has come to terms that it was time to move on. Liam's family has been incredibly supportive. They are relieved it's over."
That source said he wants to resolve things quickly. "At first, Liam wanted to just give it time but he finally felt like things were getting nasty and he didn't want to drag it out publicly," the source said of his decision to file for the divorce. "He decided it was all too much."
E! was told that Hemsworth and Cyrus really aren't talking. "Liam is just done with it," its source said. "There is no turning back and he knows he wants to move on. They have not had a lot of communication. There is nothing to say."
Hemsworth is taking his life day-by-day. "He is with the people he loves and just taking each day as it comes," the source continued. "Everyone has been very supportive and trying to take his mind off of things. He's not in a rush to figure out where to go next."
People got Cyrus' perspective on Hemsworth's decision earlier today. A source close to her said it was a surprise. “She didn’t expect it and is a bit disappointed, but she is still doing well and has obviously moved on as well," that source said.
That said, she is still sad that it really is over for good with Hemsworth after their 10-year on-off romance. “What she and Liam had for a long time was very special," the source said. "It’s just hard for her to think that she will never have this again with Liam. There are really so many things that she loves about him.”
