Taylor Swift's first big red carpet event after her album Lover's release begins tonight. The singer just arrived at the MTV VMAs red carpet, and she stepped out on the earlier side. Swift is opening the show, so it's not surprising that she would be among the first to walk the carpet.
How did Swift dress? Brightly, naturally. She wore a rainbow blazer dress with black over-the-knee boots:
This is Swift's first big VMAs appearance since 2015.
Swift is up for 10 awards tonight at the VMAs, including those for the night's biggest categories. She is nominated for Video of the Year ("You Need to Calm Down"), Song of the Year ("You Need to Calm Down"), Best Collaboration ("ME!" featuring Brandon Urie), Best Pop Song ("You Need to Calm Down"), Best Video for Good ("You Need to Calm Down"), Best Direction ("You Need to Calm Down"), Best Visual Effects ("ME!"), Best Editing ("You Need to Calm Down"), Best Art Direction ("You Need to Calm Down"), and Best Cinematography ("You Need to Calm Down").
Swift walked the carpet solo tonight. Her boyfriend Joe Alwyn has yet to make a red carpet appearance with her. In her interview with The Guardian that came out this weekend, Swift explained why she has chosen to keep their relationship as private as it is. “I’ve learned that if I do, people think it’s up for discussion, and our relationship isn’t up for discussion,” she said with a laugh. “If you and I were having a glass of wine right now, we’d be talking about it—but it’s just that it goes out into the world. That’s where the boundary is, and that’s where my life has become manageable. I really want to keep it feeling manageable.”
