Pride Month is a celebration, a moment for the LGBTQ+ community to band together and proclaim their identities to the world. It's a time of parades and elaborate parties, more often than not featuring colorful ensembles that spread joy. And though the scene is fun filled–many argue that Pride Month has become an act of pinkwashing—Pride is also about highlighting issues and uplifting organizations that are fighting for equality all year round.

From GLAAD to The Trevor Project to The Ali Forney Center, these institutions provide resources for homeless youths, combat discrimination, and petition the government for legislation that benefits those who identify as LGBTQ+. More recently, drag superstar Shangela founded Feed the Queens, which aims to distribute grocery gift cards to drag performers who have been out of work because of COVID-19. Indeed, there are many doing good for the community, but they also need support. Enter the fashion industry.

“I’ve seen more fashion companies than ever before get involved with Pride,” says Sarah Kate Ellis, president and CEO of GLAAD, to BAZAAR.com. “From mass market to couture, we’ve seen a lot of designers and fashion houses step into Pride in a really positive way. They’ve used their platforms to promote acceptance and equality for the LGBTQ community.”

Along with offering apparel that celebrates Pride, many brands are putting their money where their mouths are by donating proceeds to LGBTQ+ organizations. And you, too, can do your part in supporting the fight for equal rights by shopping the products ahead.
