Zac Efron made headlines over the weekend when TMZ reported the actor has plans to officially move out of Hollywood and into Australia's Byron Bay. Efron has been living in Byron Bay during the coronavirus pandemic and has even been photographed out there. Now, he wants to make his temporary home permanent.
But Efron isn't single, and that move could have implications for his relationship. Us Weekly reported at the start of 2020 that Zac Efron broke up with his last rumored girlfriend, Sarah Bro…and began seriously dating actress Halston Sage. The two spent the holidays together! It's really real but also super secret, making the two's current status is a mystery.

Sage and Efron were first rumored to be dating in April 2014 after co-starring in Neighbors.
Sage and Efron, both actors, started as coworkers. But dating rumors started in the spring of 2014. The two were photographed courtside at a basketball game together, and People reported, via a source, that the two were officially dating. E! also reported it, with a source telling the outlet, "They are definitely an item. They were seeing each other a bit during filming of their movie together and ever since he went to rehab they got a lot closer. Her friends love him and say he is so sweet. He's really good to her."
Efron gushed about Sage in an April 2014 interview. "She's really sweet. She's a sweetheart," he told Access Hollywood at the time. But he didn't confirm himself they were together when pressed about his relationship status with her. "I don't know, I'm not really sure I'm in the market…I'm not investing. My money's out!" He also apparently asked the outlet about the interview they had with her. “Did you talk to her? What did she say about me?” Sage didn't say anything confirming the rumors.
When asked about their off-screen relationship, she pivoted, saying, “Everyone…we all stay in touch. It’s so good, that’s why we’re so excited to be here because we all got so close over filming.” (Sage previously talked about kissing Efron in 2013, although pretty briefly, describing their on-screen kiss as "fun.")
In July 2016, Efron made it clear to the Sunday Times that he was definitely single. “Dating is something I’ll never be able to do,” he said glumly, per the outlet. “As in the dictionary definition of dating, because one way or another I’ve impacted that person’s life and they’ll soon realize it.”
"A date has to be very long to dispel whatever people think about me,” he admitted, quipping his experience on Tinder did not go well. “Amazingly, when I signed up for Tinder, nobody swiped me! They thought it was fake," then he paused. "That never happened. Aha-ha." Anyway, Sage was officially out of the picture at that point.
Sage and Efron apparently started dating again at the end of last year.
Us Weekly was told in January 2020 that the two “are in a serious relationship and in love. They spent the holidays together, with part of that time in Santa Barbara.”

The two have kept their relationship very secret on social media. Sage sporadically likes Efron's posts on his page, but she doesn't like every single Instagram. Efron, meanwhile, just follows Sage. Sage wrote about her experience at home and how she flew back from New York back to Los Angeles during the beginning of the pandemic.
In the piece for Variety, the actress opened up about searching for hand sanitizer and pausing production on her latest project. In one excerpt of the essay, she explained:
"COVID-19 is changing the way we interact as human beings, but at the end of the day, I’ve found that nothing matters more than being able to lean on those you love— even if that means leaning on the disinfected screen of a FaceTime call. I miss my first little New York apartment that I forgot to say goodbye to amidst the chaos. I miss being on set…We are all missing our 'normal,' but we will be back."
There is no indication that Sage is making the move with Efron to Australia.
While Efron is reportedly leaving Los Angeles in favor of Australia, there's no evidence Sage is making the move with him.
Sage has kept a pretty low profile on social media, last posting about #blackouttuesday in early June. She hasn't been photographed with Efron out in Byron Bay either or mentioned by any outlet as being in the town with him. Efron has been shot with Byron Bay local Vanessa Valladares, who appears to be just a friend.
